Virgin Islands
A vacation in the Virgin Islands can be either a romantic getaway for two or a fun place to take your kids!
The Virgin Islands are an archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. Some of the islands are territories of the United States and
some are territories of Great Britain. The British Virgin Islands are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke
and more than fifty other smaller islands. The U.S. Virgin Islands consist of St. Croix,
St. John,
St. Thomas,
and Water Island.
Although it is often advertised that Americans don't need a passport to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, and that is true - but
you do need a passport to get back into the U.S.. You will also need a passport if you want to visit one
of the British Virgin Islands while in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The British and U.S. Virgin Islands are very close to each other and ferries can be taken to travel between them. The exception is
St. Croix which is quite a bit further to the south of the rest of the islands. Puerto Rico and especially its smaller islands
of Vieques and Culebra are also very close to the Virgin Islands, just west of St. Thomas.
The British Virgin Islands and St. John do not have airports so to get there you need to fly into St. Thomas or somewhere
else nearby and then travel to those islands by water.
The Virgin Islands are a perfect choice for a romantic getaway!
The quiet, beautiful beaches create a great atmosphere for relaxing:
Peaceful sunsets for intimate, evening dinners for two:
For kids, there are always beach activities - like building sand castles as well as swimming and snorkeling:
There are also many fun opportunies to learn about the coral reefs and the animals that inhabit them at places like
Coral World
where kids can feed and pet sting rays as well as get their picture taken with sea lions!
